Silvery minnows have been released into the Rio Grande to reintroduce them to their native habitat. It has been 50 years since silvery minnows inhabited this portion of the Rio Grande.

The eCruise, Acadia National Park’s virtual tour of the coastal islands and  waters off the coast of Mount Desert Island, won a first place media award at the National Association for Interpretation (NAI) annual conference last month.

The National Park Service (NPS) has selected Carriages of Acadia, Inc., to operate Wildwood Stables within Acadia National Park. The 10-year contract is effective beginning January 1, 2009.

Mesa Verde National Park is hiring interpretive park rangers for the summer of 2009.

Bear activity in the high Chisos Mountains

Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are set to open for the 2008-2009 winter season as scheduled next Monday, December 15.  Limited, managed snowmobile and snowcoach travel over groomed, snow-packed park roads will be permitted this season under rules similar to those followed the past four winters.

Zion National Park is looking for volunteer birders to participate in the annual Christmas Bird Count to be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008. 

Zion National Park is currently accepting applications for the Spring Artist in Residence Program. 

David "Dave" Uberuaga (You burr ah gah) will serve as acting superintendent of Yosemite National Park, Calif, beginning January 4, 2009.  He arrives at the park as Superintendent Mike Tollefson retires from federal service.

With funding provided by Alaska Geographic, the Murie Science and Learning Center is awarding scholarships to teachers to participate in accredited trainings and seminars taking place in summer 2009 in Denali National Park and Preserve. 

All evening programs are on Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center in Rocky Mountain National Park. They are free and open to the public.

On Thursday, December 11, 2008, the staff of Mesa Verde National Park will host the 2008 Annual Holiday Open House from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Chapin Mesa headquarters area.
