There have been two new fires discovered in Yellowstone National Park in the last two days.

The body of a man found deceased in an area below the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park near the Toroweap Valley, has been identified as that of 39 year-old Thomas Peake of Atlanta, Georgia.

Feral horses from Theodore Roosevelt National Park are scheduled to be sold at public auction at Stockman's Livestock Exchange in Dickinson on Friday, October 23 at 2 PM.  Approximately 90 horses will be sold to reduce the herd in the national park to about 70 animals.

Overview:  The Chaw Pass Fire was discovered September 22, on the north end of The Thunderer, high on a ridge above the Cache Creek drainage.  It is burning in a mature, mixed forest of lodgepole pine, spruce, and fir. 

Park rangers recovered the body of a man today in an area below the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park near the Toroweap Valley.   The man’s wife called the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center last night around 10:30 to report her husband overdue. 

Fire managers from Rocky Mountain National Park plan to take advantage of any upcoming wet or winter weather conditions to burn piles of slash from several forest thinning and hazard tree mitigation projects.

Be part of an unprecedented event on September 26 when Theodore Roosevelt National Park and national parks across the country invite you to make America's Best Idea – the national parks – even better.  Presented by the National Park Service and National Park Foundation it will be a special day of service and celebration for visitors and volunteers to experience their parks and catch a sneak preview of Ken Burn's new documentary The National Parks: America's Best Idea premiering on PBS on September 27.

Retired Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Bob Barbee will speak at Beaver Meadows Visitor Center Auditorium in Rocky Mountain National Park on Wednesday, September 30, 2009.  The talk will begin at 7:00 p.m. and is open and free to the public.  It is the third Randy Jones Memorial Lecture, jointly sponsored by the University of Colorado’s Center of the American West and the National Park Service.

On August 18, 2009, several Acadia National Park employees were recognized for their “above and beyond” contributions to the park.

Experts will make recommendations on long-term protection of the Peace Park from external threats.

Free lunchtime seminars continue at Glacier National Park this fall.

During the October “From Shore to Sea” lectures, Greg Sanders, a senior biologist with Minerals Management Service, will share some of his favorite sea otter tales while offering information on how sea otters are an indicator of our ocean’s health.

There have been 18 fires in Yellowstone this season. The only fires to grow larger than a half acre in size are the Butte and Rainbow fires.

Local artist Donna Dunnahoe has been awarded the honor of being the Hot Springs National Park Artist-In-Residence for the month of September. Donna is a fiber artist.

Join Zion National Park on September 26 for a Day of Service and Celebration

This year National Public Lands Day (NPLD) at Grand Canyon National Park will be commemorated with more than the traditional free admission and volunteer opportunities.  Park staff and friends will also be celebrating the park’s first Día de la Familia: Una Celebración del Mes de Herencia Hispana (Day of the Family: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month).

Yosemite National Park and the Yosemite Climbing Association invite the public to participate in the “Yosemite Facelift” September 23-27, 2009.
