The Cow Creek Fire continues to burn in remote, rugged timbered terrain of Rocky Mountain National Park. Fire crews undertook containment actions on the eastern flank of the fire to minimize future threat to life and property.

Park Issues Finding of No Significant Impact for Planned Newfound Gap Road Reconstruction

The National Park Service has completed an Environmental Assessment of the planned rehabilitation of 14.5 miles of Newfound Gap Road from the park’s entrance at Gatlinburg, TN, to the TN/NC state line at Newfound Gap.

Morning Update on Fire in Rocky Mountain National Park

The fire near Mount Dickinson in Rocky Mountain National Park has reached approximately 800 acres.  Fire managers have better acreage estimates due to better mapping.  Erratic winds continue to drive the fire to the west, north and north east.

Surprise Bus Inspections Conducted in Yosemite National Park (2010)

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), in conjunction with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and the National Park Service (NPS) held surprise inspections for all commercial for hire multiple passenger tour buses in Yosemite National Park between June 9 and June 20, 2010.  The purpose of these unannounced inspections is ensure visitor safety through safe operation of tour buses in an attempt to reduce chances of crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving tour buses bringing passengers to Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite National Park Archeologist Laura Kirn Wins Prestigious Award

Laura Kirn is the 2010 recipient of the Stephen K.F. and Katharine W. Lee Prize from the Goucher College Master of Arts in Historic Preservation program. The Lee Prize was established in 1999 by Antoinette J. Lee, National Park Service Deputy Assistant Director for Cultural Resources, in honor Lee's parents.

Evening Update on Fire in Rocky Mountain National Park

Ground crews are reporting that the fire has reached 200 acres.  Erratic winds are driving the fire to the west, north and north east.  McGraw Ranch Road is now closed to the public.

Fourth of July celebration

Come to “The Fourth!”  For many years former park and area residents came to Mammoth Cave to celebrate the Fourth of July in a festivity often called simply “The Fourth” by picnicking, greeting friends, and enjoying musical programs.  The National Park Service and the Mammoth Cave National Park Association have revived this tradition, and everyone is invited.
