Buoy Removal and No Hunting in Voyageurs National Park Reminder

Beginning October 1, 2010 park staff will begin the effort to remove all hazard markers and regulatory buoys within the park, as weather conditions allow. In addition, Voyageurs National Park reminds hunters that hunting and trapping of any type or manner is prohibited on National Park lands and all waters within the boundary of the park.

October 2010 Park Road Closure

The Denali Park Road will remain open to private vehicles as far as the Teklanika River Rest Area at Mile 30 through Friday, October 8, and possibly longer, depending on the weather and the schedule for a culvert replacement project. Visitors are advised to call ahead for weather and road information, as conditions can change rapidly at this time of the year.

Continued Accessibility Improvements in Stehekin: Contract Awarded for Ferry Landing

A nearly $1 million contract has been awarded by the National Park Service through a full and open competitive bidding process to Wesslen Construction, Inc. to provide universal access at the Stehekin Landing for all passengers traveling via the commercial ferry system. It is part of over $2 million dollars in work that has been completed or is planned to improve the accessibility of facilities and services in Stehekin and is the most notable improvement to the Stehekin Ferry Landing in almost forty years.

Park Announces Release of the Warner Valley Comprehensive Site Plan Final Environmental Impact Statement

Lassen Volcanic National Park announced the release of the Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Warner Valley Comprehensive Site Plan (FEIS) this week. Superintendent Darlene M. Koontz stated “I am pleased to announce the release of this document, which is the result of many years of collaboration between park staff, researchers, and the public.” Koontz added “I greatly appreciate the input we received during the development of the plan from individuals and groups who have a deep commitment to this beautiful and historically significant area.”
