Record Visitation at Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park recorded its busiest year with a total of 1,782,333 visitors in 2010. This reflects an increase of 7.24% from 2009. For its relatively small size (56 square miles), Bryce Canyon receives an unusually large number of visitors. With over 50% of its visitation from abroad, people from around the world come to the park to marvel at its unique and spectacular colorful geological formations called “hoodoos.”

NPS News Release: Grand Canyon National Park Acting Superintendent Named

Jane Lyder, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks, U.S. Department of the Interior, has been named acting superintendent of Grand Canyon National Park. Lyder will assume her new duties in early February.

Encore Presentation of ‘Elwha Power’ Scheduled for January 25

Harry von Stark and Kevin Yancy will lead a second presentation of their Elwha Power program, to be held January 25 at 7 p.m. at the Port Angeles branch of the North Olympic Library System. Von Stark is a photographer and park volunteer whose most recent show featured dramatic images of equipment and machinery from the powerhouse. Yancy serves as Operations & Maintenance Power Plant Foreman III (Sup) of the Elwha hydro-project.
